A Little Grace and Salt

A little grace and salt

"Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt..."

Colossians 4:6

My family and I began this journey with Westside Baptist Church in October of 2015 and now, 1 year later we are Gateway Community Church.

We believe names are important. So often our name coincides with our identity. Our new name says so much about who we are and what we feel God has planned for us in the city of Titusville and throughout Brevard County. First, let’s talk about “Gateway”. Titusville is known as “gateway” to space. Even the first sentence of our city’s website says, “Titusville is the world’s premier gateway to nature and space.”

Though we will never launch rockets from our church, we do want to clearly lead people to Heaven. The only way to get there is through a saving relationship with Jesus Christ. In John 10: 9 Jesus said, “I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved.” On the East Coast, you have to go through Titusville to get to space and every soul that has ever or will ever live must go through Jesus to get to Heaven. We are just pointing the way.

“Community” is also a big deal to us because it is a big deal to God. We were never meant to be isolated as people or as believers. God created us for relationships or “communities. In the New Testament this word is “koinonia” which is translated “fellowship”. Our goal is to be a church of deep, relational love that is known for it’s community partnership.

And lastly, the word “church”. This word has evolved so much through the years that I am afraid it has lost the meaning that Christ desired for us. When we think of church we think of a building or a campus. But when Jesus said, “Upon this rock I will build my church”, the word he used for church actually means, “assembly”. God meant for the church to be a gathering of people not buildings. God values humans, souls that he created “in his image”. We don’t want to be known for our buildings but for our gatherings.

Come see for yourself. You are always welcome.
